alright, I'm copy and pasting this thread from the officer's section for everyone to see and post in.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Original post:

Last night (4/16/2016), we had a discussion about the guild's revitalization. This thread is for planning and updating the various aspects that make up the guild, so ideas are welcome.

There was talk of updating the guild chain of command and ranks, so...Why don't we start with that?

Personally, I would like the ranks to be understandable. A week ago, syn brought up maybe making it based on military ranks like the US Army's, which I like. But after having a week to think about it, I don't really think it would fit the guild...

Thess's first post:

I concur, Gabe. The current naming convention doesn't make a lot of sense from standpoints both in and out of character, and I don't think using official military ranks would be all that feasible either. While it is true that the FMMC was born out of Theta Company according to our revised history, only three characters - Gabe, Chef and Sol - were former career soldiers. Everyone else that they've recruited since then has been strictly freelance in their own right. But what if we thought about about adopting something similar, like what's listed on http://ffxiclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Mercenary_Rank?

Syn's first post:

I actually agree also, at least in regards to the naming conventions. The structure though, I think, could really work - department heads (engineering, assault, tactical, medical, personnel/logistics), squad/team leaders, mercs, and enlistees/recruits in that order. There could even be different ranks of mercs, depending on kills or experience or something.

That's just my two-cents. I don't think we should go with military style rank names, but still aim for the structure we talked about before.

Gabe's second Post:

Alright, So, Qu, Izzy, you don't have any opinions on this? nothing to add at all?

Out of both choices, I think I like Syn's the best. We could have the actual ranks be exactly what she described in the post above. It would be organized, Perhaps the criteria for ranking up would be done through a combination of recruitment and Leadership Experience like...running them through an RP or something?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright, people, let's take it away from here.

I was thinking. What if we did the ranks like metal gear solid's? We could either do it with various letters (E, D, C, B, A, A+, S, S+, S++) or we could list them all as random animals? What do you think? I had the thought while looking up some stuff for metal gear solid.

*decides to speak after creeping around the forums forever* Whatever you guys decide to do will be awesome! However, my two cents is that to keep it simple stupid, or if you want to weave a web of different titles, map it out physically or on the site so if you get asked questions about the different ranks you have a reference, and are prepared.

Didn't see the MGS reference until now. Either that or the letter system could work. Frankly, I'm okay with pretty much whatever. :)

I like the letter system more.

This it just me spit balling, but Here's the way I picture it working:

As a Rank E you'd be a new recruit.

Rank D would get you your squad placement within the guild and access to the guild bank, with a weekly pay grade (The withdraw thing from the guild bank) of 10,000 credits, which will increase by an increment of 10,000 each time you get promoted.

Rank C would allow you to be an assistant squad leader

Rank B would allow you to be an squad leader

Rank A would allow you to be what is essentially a sergeant major

Rank A+ would allow you to be what essentially is equivalent to a warrant officer

Rank S would basically be an lower form of officer. possibly a Lieutenant?

Rank S+ would be a higher form of officer. maybe a captain?

Rank S++'s would be the best of the best, I guess maybe whatever the mercenary equivalent of special forces would be.

Now, the criteria for ranking up would account for three things combined: Recruitment, Leadership potential, and RP.

The Squad and departments that people are in would be mentioned in the member notes.

Feedback is very appreciated, so...Does anyone see this as a potentially viable ranking system?

Rex came up with something regarding the ranks. So how about this for the actual ranks?

Recruit

Grunt

Specialist

Squad Leader

Commander

Contractor

Executive Officer

Chief Executive Officer

Personally, I love it. It's simple, it would keep the mercenary feel, and it would allow people to progress in rank, yeah? Also The Guild Rank Limit is apparently 10.

I chose these ranks because I feel it gives a good vibe of military/mercenary but still an emphasis on it being a COMPANY.

And to be more specific with the ranks, I'll explain. With Recruit, that's pretty self-explanatory. Grunts, slightly above recruits; they're the main force of any military group. Specialists can get more individualized; since there will be different branches of the company, specialists could represent their respective branches or focus of discipline. Squad Leaders are specialists who have shown exemplary leadership qualities and skill in there branch.

Commanders will be high ranking/long standing members of the company. They are the heads of their branches and will be expected to take the leading role of their branch and give assignments. Contractors will have a special role; instead of being a part of a certain branch of the company, they will be the ones in charge of more diplomatic roles. These roles includes, as the name suggests, creating contracts with governments / other companies for missions and jobs. Contractors will be used to broker treaties and even recruit new members.

The last ranks are the heads of the company as a whole. I'm thinking that there will be two or three Executive Officers who take on the administrative jobs of the company and each Officer oversees a few branches. The Chief Executive Officer will be, of course, the guild leader. They're the face of the company.

I hope this sounds good!

Alright, since no one seems to have a problem with Rex's Recruit to Chief Executive Officer. I'd like to move on to the Rank Progression system.

I was thinking that in order to rank up, it should be attributed to two factors: the individual's tenure and RP Events in which the individual proves he or she is ready to progress in rank, and, optionally, recruitment.

I'm open to ideas, though.

Alright, This would also mean we would have to keep an eye on recruits. Perhaps make a progress thread in the officers forum or something?

Perhaps to go from Recruit to grunt it should be a week, to see if they're really interested in staying with us?

Alright then, who wants to do the draft for the rank progression system? Once that's taken care of, we have to organize ourselves with the departments and divisions and stuff and squads, and...I guess the only things to pick up from there would be the ingame events, which I...might have a couple of ideas for once we get to that topic, and Recruitment.

Alright, so Thess and I were talking and well...Since the nar shaddaa stronghold was destroyed, we were thinking maybe we should change the stronghold out. Ideally, I was thinking Tatooine. It would be just big enough for us to operate, and I was thinking maybe we could set it up after the Tatooine star fortress gets destroyed.

I thought about Yavin, but we decided it wouldn't exactly fit the guild's style, and Coruscant is just too small same with Nar Shaddaa.

Just wanted to point out that this thread isn't dead.

So far we've come up with a rank structure and we've decided on a new place to stay. All we need to do now is come up with a progression system for that rank structure and stick with it, come up with events to keep people around so that they don't start dropping like flies just because we're inactive, and anything else we can think of. There are no dumb ideas, and everyone is free to post here, in fact I encourage you to post here so that we can get the guild back up and running again, so we can start recruiting.
