The small Republic outpost located to the far north pole of Ord Mantell was officially called "Outpost Zeta", but the some 40 troopers that inhabited it had taken to calling it "Outpost Boredom." It had gained a reputation for being extremely boring and out of the way; in fact, the location had received so little notice and was considered so insignificant that it had, in fact, attracted the attention of the planet's government, who sent the conscripted children of politicians there for safe, easy service.

One of those children happened to be the 20 year old son of Ord Mantell's senator.

Ord Mantell's senator, also by chance, was extremely hated by a considerable number of his constituents.

Despite the close of the civil war on Ord Mantell, the hate continued. The action may have been suppressed, but the hate remained; it festered, it seethed, it writhed in forcibly restrained contempt.

"This is Shuttle Tydirium to Outpost Zeta, requesting access to land on-site."

One of the two troopers at the control station jumped up in his seat, awaking from his slumber. He looked around, confused at what was happening. His blonde companion rolled his eyes at him then moved to answer the hailing.

"Shuttle Tydirium, this is Outpost Zeta receiving your hail. On what business are you coming to visit us?"

"Surprise inspection. But, don't tell anybody; we want it to be a real surprise."

The previously sleeping trooper seemed taken aback by that, taking a sip of his caf. The blonde trooper raises a brow to his companion, then shrugs.

"Affirmative. Do you have the correct clearance code? We'll have to turn you back, if not."

The question is followed by some moments of silence before the screen in front of the troopers gives the all clear.

"Alright, you're all clear! Welcome to Outpost Zeta. Enjoy your stay!"

The Rendaran-class shuttle nestled itself down easily in front of the base. The base commander walked out, flanked by the two other ranking officers of the base, in full uniform. They stood fully at attention in front of the shuttle; strangely, the shuttle had landed facing the base... thus, the ship ramp faced away from the base.

The ramp lowered.

Down walked two men in standard issue Republic Trooper armor. One had two pistols on his hips; the other, a huge man himself, had a gigantic gun strapped to his own back. Both were helmeted.

They walked up to the base-officers and nodded at them. "Commander. Give us the tour."

"Uh... right."

They all entered the base together. The officers all exchanged uneasy looks with each other. "So... what rank are you, sir?"

"None of your damned business, commander. That's classified."

"Oh... understood, sir."

They arrived to the entrance of the building; the compound itself had a decent sized perimeter surrounded by a tall fence in a pentagon shape, with large automatic turrets on the corners and towers in between. In the center was the base, a large building with huge antennae on top of it.

The base commander walked up to a console, then typed in a few digits to enter; the door slid open.

Only for the three officers to receive gunshots to the back, their bodies sliding slowly to the ground. The 'troopers' entered the base.

There were two soldiers inside who had seen the shots, and they hastily drew their blaster pistols... but were gunned down before they could even raise them up.

The imposters split up from there, the smaller one going straight down the corridor as the huge one went door to door.

In the first door that the huge one entered was the bunk room; there were five off-duty troopers in there who had failed to notice the disturbance outside. As the door opened, they looked up in surprise to see the Wolf in sheep's clothing toss a thermal detonator; the Wolf quickly turned around and sealed the door behind him. Muffled screams were heard before a boom went off.

The blonde trooper and his companion stared in shocked horror at their monitoring screens as the assailants went through out the base slaughtering all.

"Xirad, do somethin'!"

The blonde blinked down at his own hands, now shaking. "O-o-okay...." He raised a hand to press the emergency button, signaling to Republic Command on Ord Mantell that something was wrong...

But, just as he did, there was a very, VERY audible boom that shook the entire structure. The two looked up at the monitoring screen to see that the shuttle that had flown in the attackers had shot and destroyed the antennae of the base.

Nobody would know that something was wrong.

Sirens still sounded through out the base, however; red lights flashed through out the base to warn of what was happening.

The two soldiers looked at each other, both of them trembling. Xirad looked at this companion. "Gozo... we've got to get out of here."

The dark haired soldier ignored him, staring down at his hands. "This can't be happening, this can't be happening..."

The blonde then stood up, shaking himself into control now. "Gozo, come on. Now! There's an escape hatch here that leads outside... we've just got to sneak past that shuttle and it'll be okay. Alright?"

Gozo looked up at him, terror in his eyes; his gaze fixed upon the screens behind Xirad; the scenes were those of death. The Wolf seemed to be intent on killing everybody in the entire base. His smaller companion, however, seemed to be intent on something. He walked as if he knew exactly where he was going.

His path lead straight to the control room that Xirad and Gozo were in. Gozo's eyes went wide at the realization; he frantically jumped to his feet, shoving Xirad out of his way to get to the escape hatch that was in the corner.

"Hey, what the hell is wrong with you..." It was then that Xirad noticed what Gozo had seen.

The blonde ran over to the control panel, putting in a code to completely seal the door shut. "There... that should hold him for a bit... Gozo? Have you got that hatch open yet?" He looked up, only to see the hatch wide open, the other soldier long gone. "Shite." He ran over, crawling down the ladder of the hatch. He stopped for a moment, his eyes giving the room one last look before closing the hatch down behind him.

While the Wolf continued his hunt, his companion arrived at the door. After putting in a code sequence and seeing that the door was sealed, he let out an annoyed sigh. He wordlessly pulled a small wad of clay looking material and stuck it onto the side of the door. He stood back a few yards then pulled a detonator out of his pocket.

BOOM.

The Fox walked through the smoking remains of the door and straight to the monitoring station. He pulled a small device out of a pouch on his utility belt and stuck it into a small outlet on the console. He looked over at the escape hatch.

The two escaping soldiers crawled slowly, cautiously, to the exit of the escape tunnel. Gozo slowly opened the hatch that led outside... just behind the shuttle that had brought in the attackers. With out a second thought, Gozo took off running.

"Wait, you idiot! Hold on!" Xirad whispered as loud as he could at Gozo, he himself staying at the hatch, with in cover.

The Fox looked up at the monitor of the console; one of the cameras revealed a view of the fleeing trooper. The device he had inserted let out a quiet beeping nose; he pulled it out of the console, then turned around to exit the room. In his helmet he said, "He's outside."

Xirad watched, breathlessly, as Gozo almost made it to the exit of the base.

But, just as he was about to make it, a familiar wirr sound of a starship engine could be heard. Looking up, the blonde saw a S-13 Sting Starfighter closing in on the base. Laser bolts from the Starfighter came crashing down, closing in on the escaping trooper. Gozo seemed to stop where he was momentarily before turning around and sprinting back towards the shuttle.

The bolts from the Starfighter closed in... closed in... closed in... and fell just short of the target. The impact of the bolt, however, was enough to send the trooper flying forward, just behind the shuttle.

The Wolf had collected some three troopers and led them outside; the Fox followed close behind him. They two forced the soldiers to their knees to watch as a third stranger exited the shuttle... bearing armor that seemed to incorporate wampa fur. The stranger walked up to the body of Gozo; sprawled out but still alive, in front of the landing ramp. He bent down, and, despite not seeming to have a notably large stature, picked up the soldier by the neck with one hand. The stranger carried Gozo over to the other three, effortlessly, then just threw him down in front of the others.

The Wolf took off his helmet as the Wampa-Man approached, revealing him to be a Nikto. The Fox followed suite; he was a human with red hair and a beard, but a large scar on his entire jaw left a line free of any facial hair. The Fox gave a curt nod to the Wampa-Man. "We've got all that we came for?" The Wampa-Man nodded. "Then, would you like the honors for this lot, Soll?" He shook his head. "All mine, then?" Another nod.

The Wolf walked to the Wampa-Man, and they both walked back to the shuttle together.

The Fox turned to the captives, a hungry look on his face.

White light, beeping noises...

Xirad slowly blinked himself awake; he looked to his right to see a familiar looking vista, strangely familiar to the view he'd grown so accustomed to when he was younger, stuck in a hospital bed. The Coruscanti sunset looked beautiful on the horizon, casting long shadows all over from the tall buildings. He looked to his right, finally realizing that there was an IV in his arm...
As well as a group of doctors and nurses, all staring intently at him.

"Where am I... what happened?"

They all looked at each other, some of them whispering, all of them taking notes at this.

"That's... interesting, Xirad. What do you think happened?"

The blonde raised a brow at the question. "I was on Outpost Zeta when it was attacked... and I was fighting... some guy... and there was an explosion.. and now I'm here... did anybody else get out?"

More whispering and note taking. "Interesting, very interesting. So, today you think you were on some.. military base? Is that it?"

"What?!"

The lead doctor sighed. "Come on, Xirad. If you keep this up much longer, we're going to have to send you to the Asylum. We know you've just been imagining these... situations... so you can cope with your situation. It's completely natural! You've just got to be open with us.

"..What?"

The lead doctor sighed, yet a gain. More whispering and note taking. "Alright, we get it. It's okay. We'll be back to talk later." He motioned, and the group of doctors left.

Xirad stared at the door after them. "What... what?"

"Do you think it was a good ploy?"

"It was good enough. I only needed some time."

"Do you think they realize...?"

"No."

Rex, now adorned with black hair, sat up in his bed, breathing heavily. His muscly chest reflected from sweat in the dark. He had tears in his eyes as he stared down at the cracked tablet that he had dropped onto the ground. Also in the bed was his Sith first mate, Chrysa; the sheets covered her blood red form; motionless as she slept.

The poorly lit room was weighed down by darkness; the voice of a middle aged woman echoed from the tablet, "Dear Mister Rexplor Hjalte, we regret to inform you of the passing of your younger brother, Xirad Hjalte. He died in service to the Republic which he had so valiantly served." Pause. "Dear Mister Rexplor Hjalte, we regret..."

"Can I at least make a call to Rex? Or to my dad? My mom?!"

The nurse, a pretty Twi'lek, frowned at Xirad, a concerned look on her face. "Ah, you poor thing... we understand, you're still coping, but... they're gone!"

"Gone?" A distant, clouded look struck the blonde's face. "What do you mean?"

"Oh, you poor thing!" She patted his IV'ed arm gently, delicately batting her eyes at him.

"Oh..." He closed his eyes, sighing deeply. "Maybe... maybe you're right... maybe I need to just... accept the reality..."

A dark green Mirialan crouched on the ground, her lips pursed, staring at the scorch marks of what remained of Outpost Zeta. Her flowing, light colored robes stood in stark contrast to the burned-black of charcoal.

Thirty-nine bodies, each completely charred, most horribly maimed, some in pieces, were lined up as Republic soldiers in uniforms walked around the remains of the base.

The Mirialan tilted her head at the bodies, then looked at the ground of where she stood... then her eyes went wide.

Tears rolled down Xirad's face as he lay in his bed, staring outside at the night sky of Coruscant.
