Now, the world and lore behind the fighting game series might be a bit foreign to some of you. First thoughts might be to rush over to the MK Wiki. And I say, please do! But don't take everything there at face value. If you did, what would be the point of this thread?
Right off the bat, all I can say to the upcoming events of MK X (or Ten, if you want to be technical) is...they didn't happen. Why? Too much of a hassle to wait for the release. I know, I'm lazy. The story here, as such, diverges completely following the events of the previous (brilliant) game. Several things -do- happen that match with canon, such as Kotal Kahn becoming the Emperor of Outworld and the Netherrealm invasion.
Now, the biggest changes I would enact revolve around the tournament itself. Since it was originally conceived to protect the realms from invasions and forced mergings (thank you Shao Kahn) and all current -big- threats are dead and gone, the tournie would've undergone heavy revisions. Now, it's an event held every ten years between the three major realms - Outworld, Earth, and Edenia - with the victor granted a single wish by the Elder Gods. Additionally, the victor themselves become the current champion of Mortal Kombat, and the "final boss" of the next tournament.
The wish itself has several restrictions. Because of the harsh experiences with inter-realm wars, wishes cannot be used to benefit the victor's own realm to the point where they are a danger to other realms. Other basic restrictions exist: you cannot become a god or supremely powerful, etcetera etcetera.
Sound good? Good!
((Note: If something else hits my brain like a mallet, I -will- update this.))
